Work together and brainstorm questions to ask people to prompt conversation when you see them again after the weekend, then discuss which would be best to use with a foreign colleague in your office:

When your team runs out of ideas, suggest some of the things below. They should accept all the ideas at the brainstorming stage but reject the ones which are not suitable at the narrowing down your options stage:

“Did you get up to anything at the weekend?”

“You said you were going to… at the weekend. Was it any good?”

“Did you see the match?”

“Nice weather at the weekend, wasn’t it?”

“Did you manage to get out of town at the weekend?”

“I played with my friends”

“I spent Saturday with my mistress and Sunday with my family”
