Present Continuous plasticine shapes games

Take Off 2 Unit 15/ Lift Off 2 Unit 15

Instructions for teachers

Give each student a ball of at least 5cm across of plasticine/ Playdoh/ modelling clay. Just one colour for each student is okay and probably best, so one packet of mixed colours might not be enough. If you don’t have enough to go around, students can work in teams instead.

Choose which of the tables below you are going to use.

The best game to play is one student making and saying a sentence from the table below for that student and everyone else to try to represent with a plasticine shape. You can then give points for the first acceptable shape and/ or the best shape to represent that person or thing and action. Possible rules:

  • Students can do it flat on the table or in 3D, as they wish (but might be more likely to get points for the best shape if it is 3D)
  • There is no need for students to show the other object(s) as long as the body is in the right position, e.g. sitting as if on a horse without actually modelling the horse is okay (and much quicker)
  • Students don’t need to show the whole body, but they must make at least the relevant parts, e.g. they must make the hands if the action is “holding”

If the subject of the sentence is “I”, students should try to make people who look like themselves. For “you”, they can make anyone else in the classroom. Both of these are obviously funnier but more challenging than with other subjects.

Other possible games include each person making a shape for others to identify the subject and action of.
