BULATS Speaking Part Two tasks on the topic of trade

Market Leader Intermediate New Edition Unit 9

In this stage you will give a one minute presentation about one three topics below. Choose one of the three topics and prepare what you what you want to say. You have one minute for preparation, and then one minute to speak. You can make notes on the scrap paper if you like.

 

A: Talk about a consequence of globalisation that you have a strong opinion about, including:

  • What the consequence is
  • How that might change in the future
  • What your opinion of that consequence is

And talk about whether you think most people have the same opinion as you or not, and why

 

B: Talk on your own for a minute about one way in which globalisation has had an effect on you. Things you should include in your presentation:

  • What part of globalisation that is
  • What its effect on you has been
  • How you first became aware of that affect and its link to globalisation

And tell the examiner whether you think that thing has affected your overall opinion of globalisation or not, and why.

 

 

C: Give a one minute presentation about the international trade in a product that you are interested in. Please include:

  • Which countries it comes from and goes to
  • How it is transported
  • How it is distributed and sold

And say whether you think it is an example of the benefits of globalisation or not, and why

Candidate

The examiner works for a trading company and you are thinking of using them to help you sell your products in a new market. He/ She has come to your office so that you can ask questions about their services and costs. Please enquire about:

       Their help in finding customers and transporting your products

       Reasons for using their services rather than doing it all yourself

       Costs involved

And any other information you think is relevant.

 

Then discuss this question with the examiner:

What would be the most difficult thing for a foreign company trying to sell products in your country for the first time, do you think?

Examiner

You work for a trading company and the candidate is thinking about using your services to help them launch their products in a new country. Use the following answers to their questions, making up any other answers you need.

       Help you offer – You deal with all the import paperwork and duties, find local wholesalers and retailers, and provide help during visits by managers from abroad. You don’t help with international shipping.

       Benefits of using your company – You understand the local market and culture

       Costs – A mix of fixed costs and commission based on sales, renegotiable two years after the initial agreement

 

Then discuss this question with the candidate:

What would be the most difficult thing for a foreign company trying to sell products in your country for the first time, do you think?

Let them to most of talking, but also give your own opinion, ask extra questions etc to prompt further discussion.
