This that these those pick and draw drawing game

with vocabulary from SPEC 2

Instructions for teachers

Cut up one pack of cards per class or per group of two to four students, leaving out the more difficult spelling versions if they are not suitable for your class. Students take turns picking and arranging the cards to make sentences that they want to draw, or to get other people to draw that thing if that would be more fun. To make the pictures match the sentences, “This…” and “These…” things should be drawn as big as possible near the bottom of the picture to make them appear close, possibly so close that you only see part of the thing. “That…” and “Those…” sentences should be drawn as small as possible near the top of the picture.

After you finish the pick and draw game with the cards, you could ask students to:

  • make more cards to continue the game with
  • write and/ or say similar sentences to draw or make someone else draw
  • describe the pictures which they have drawn with similar language
