FCE Result Unit 8
Choose one of the words below that you think you can make many true statements about in its present form and/ or different parts of speech. Make those statements one by one, stopping whenever you are not sure if you can do so accurately anymore. You will get one point for each correct statement, but will lose all the points from that round if you say anything wrong and play will pass to the next person or team. If something you say is debatable, you won’t get a point for that thing but you can continue with other statements.
Things you can say (in any order):
– What part(s) of speech the word is in here
– The forms of other parts of speech or different forms of the same part of speech
– Positive or negative connotations of any of those forms
– Grammar of nouns (countable or uncountable)
– ing and –ed forms of verbs will not be accepted, though adjectives with those forms are fine. Prefixes are also very welcome, and you can give comparatives as long as they are one word (not “more…”) and make sense.

PDF version for easy saving and printing: food vocabulary word formation game
good idea! I love different things on word formation, for me this is the topic that gives a lot of freedom to students…)
Thanks. Let me know how it goes if you get a chance to try it out.
What do you mean by freedom? I must say I feel like a bit of a fascist doing this lesson – “No, you can’t say that in English, well you just can’t” etc…
